Introduction to the review of the movie Pushpa 2
The first time Pushpa The Rise movie came in 2021 which was a blockbuster even at that time and people were eagerly waiting for it.
The first part established the character of Pushparaj as a cultural phenomenon, which earned Allu Arjun a National Award for his brilliant performance.
Synopsis
The story starts from where Pushpa: The Rise ends. Pushpa Raj (Allu Arjun) is at the peak of his power as the red sandalwood smuggling kingpin. But trouble brews when Srivalli (Rashmika Mandanna) asks him to take a photo with the Chief Minister and he denies saying he’s a criminal. How does Pushpa react to this insult? Can he survive the external threats and internal backstabbing? Meanwhile Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil) is still smarting from his previous defeat and is planning his revenge. The film explores all these conflicts and Pushpa’s transformation and the cost of his rise.
Performances
Allu Arjun:
The Jathara episode and the climax breakdown sequence are the best moments that showcase his acting prowess.
Allu Arjun's performance as Pushpa was projected as exceptional and he acted with such finesse that he outshone the award winning experienced actors before him.
Fahadh Faasil:
Fahadh shines as the cunning and humorous Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat. Though the character's writing has minor flaws, Fahadh compensates with his impeccable timing and charisma, bringing comic relief and intensity to the narrative.
Rashmika Mandanna:
Rashmika delivers a heartwarming performance as Shrivalli. She seamlessly transitions between romance, emotional scenes and powerful dance numbers, bringing a lot of heart to her character.
Supporting Cast:
Sreeleela impresses with her dancing in the Kissik song, though she lacks the allure Samantha brought in Oo Antava from the first film. Rao Ramesh, Ajay, and Jagapathi Babu deliver commendable performances, while Sunil and Anasuya make their presence felt despite limited screen time
Technical Brilliance
Music and Background Score: Devi Sri Prasad’s 4 songs are visually and musically super. Sooseki is a chartbuster. But the background score along with Sam CS is inconsistent. Shines in some parts and falters in others.
Cinematography:
Mirosław Kuba Brożek’s work is top notch. The forest, festival scenes and action sequences are captured well. Adds a lot of visual texture.
Editing and VFX: Naveen Nooli’s editing could have been tighter especially in the second half where the pacing goes for a toss. VFX is decent but not up to the mark of the film’s scale.
Direction: Sukumar’s story is engaging. Action, drama and emotion. His writing is good but could have made Pushpa’s antagonist more powerful.
Highlights
- Allu Arjun’s career-defining performance.
- The Jathara episode – a 20-minute spectacle of drama and action.
- High-octane interval sequence.
- Rashmika’s emotional outburst at the end of the Jathara episode.
- Fahadh Faasil’s entertaining portrayal of Shekhawat.
- Four memorable songs by Devi Sri Prasad.
Verdict
Pushpa: The Rule is a fitting sequel that delivers on its promises, with Allu Arjun leading from the front with an unforgettable performance. While it has minor flaws in editing and antagonist development, the film's grand scale, emotional depth, and pulsating action make it a must-watch for fans and newcomers alike. Sukumar once again proves his prowess in crafting a gripping drama that keeps the audience invested from start to finish.
